Oxford

September 2009

Dear Friends

The study in College is (relatively) tidy, in that I can see the carpet: The Oxford house is beginning to take shape: The Longridge house might politely be described as ‘work in progress’! However, I find that I can snatch a moment to write a long overdue note to you which tries to express, however inadequately, all that is in my heart to say.

My final Sunday in the parish was such a joy. To be truthful, I had dreaded it, but so much was done by so many to make the day a celebration that my fears were unfounded. The amazing gifts: the wonderful gatherings, both in the morning and the evening: the laughter, the music, the embraces, the food and drink; it was classic Woodplumpton, and a snapshot of what we have shared together over the past five years. I cannot thank you all enough. Added to all of this have been your prayers, your kind cards and the sentiments you have expressed, your lovely thoughtful gifts. In truth, I am quite overwhelmed by the experience of it all – and humbled at the thought of the all you have given me. There is now a video recording of the evening ‘Songs of Praise’ which can be watched on DVD – watching it brings back happy memories of a lovely, grace-filled evening.

You are daily in my prayers. The work here is quite different in so many ways, and has a lot of challenges, but I am enjoying life thoroughly, even at a distance from the family. I know we will be able to keep in touch, and I look forward to hearing about developments in the parish.

With much love always

Your

Fr. Damian

Harvest Supper

What a great night about thirty of us gathered in the parish room for supper and a quiz, the supper was home made hotpot (with crust) pickled red cabbage, beetroot or onions and mushy peas followed by

home made sweets excellent!.  Every boby had a lot of fun, especially the winning team  (The Scrambled Eggheads) .  It is a shame more of you don't

come and join in ,it really is great to be a part of it all.

Great night Thank you.
