BAPTISMS

A great many people desire to bring their children to Christian Baptism. We are always delighted to welcome candidates for Baptism. Candidates for Baptism should normally live within the Parish of Woodplumpton (or their parents should be regular worshippers here.) Otherwise it is more appropriate for a child to be baptised in the parish church of residence. There are exceptional circumstances where residents outside the parish could be considered, but it should be stressed that these are exceptional. Those bringing children for Baptism will be expected to undertake a period of Baptism preparation. This will involve:

- Regular (preferably weekly) worship at S. Anne’s.
- A Meeting with Fr. Damian and/or the Baptism Visitor.
- Careful reading by parents and godparents of the order of service, and a full understanding of the eternal and binding commitment of Christian Baptism.

Godparents should be both baptised and confirmed. Please speak to Fr. Damian or the Baptism Visitor before inviting friends to stand as Godparents.

Baptisms takes place on the First Sunday of the month at the 10.30 am Eucharist. Orders of service for these service are customised for each service, and contain everything that is needed for full participation in the service. Baptism is not an isolated event: it is the beginning of a life long journey.

Baptisms, while joyful, are also solemn and reverent occasions in the life of the church. It would help greatly if photographs were not taken during the course of the service, and if families could remind guests of this. You are more than welcome to take photographs after the service. We want your Child’s Baptism to be happy, holy, and an event you will look back on with great pleasure. Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can assist you in any way.
